No Crowd Allowed for 3 WPL Matches: Here are Full Details

No Crowd in WPL

Due to local corporation elections in Navi Mumbai on January 15, three forthcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 games at the DY Patil stadium are expected to take place behind closed doors and without spectators, which means the WPL match crowd will not come to see the game live.

There are no tickets available for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 games on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. As a result, fans may not be able to see WPL teams live. The DY Patil Stadium is the venue for all of these games.

WPL Behind Close Doors: Know Reasons

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been notified by local police that they are unable to provide sufficient protection for the Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriors game on election day, according to ESPNcricinfo. Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz on January 14 and Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru on January 16 may also be impacted.

Last year, the WPL schedule was revealed on November 29, and the election date was revealed on December 15. The report states that soon after the election date was decided, the WPL committee was notified.

It has now been confirmed that no fans will be allowed into the stadium for Thursday's game. However, it is not yet clear whether spectators will be permitted at the fixtures the day before and after. On Saturday, January 17, a double-header will take place, where MI will play UPW and RCB will play DC. Tickets are still on sale for those matches.
Both players and fans would be disappointed if the games were played without spectators. Since India won the 2025 World Cup semi-final and final at one of the most beautiful cricket stadiums in the world, DY Patil Stadium, many women's international players view it as the Indian team's unofficial home stadium. "We may have to host those two matches (on January 14 and 15) without any crowd. We are contemplating that idea after the police intimation, but as of now, no decision has been taken,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to Sportstar.

Gujarat Giants Leading WPL 2026

With two victories in their two games, Gujarat Giants Women are presently leading the points standings. Delhi Capitals Women were recently defeated by the Gujarat-based team to complete the victory.

Mumbai Indians Women, the reigning champions, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women are placed second and third, respectively. RCB has only played one WPL game thus far, whereas Mumbai has won one of its two games. With two straight losses, the Delhi Capitals Women sit at the bottom of the standings.
