A historic clash is on the cards in Jakarta as hosts Indonesia meet Bulgaria in the finals of the FIFA Series. Monday night's clash represents the best of the FIFA Series as Bulgaria from the UEFA confederation meets Indonesia from the AFC. Indonesia was so close to a World Cup qualification as they made their way to the 4th Round of the AFC Qualifiers. But the Indonesian National Football Team fell flat as they lost to Saudi Arabia and Iraq to finish dead last in a three-member group. But their FIFA ranking currently stands at 122nd, and by integrating players of Dutch-Indonesian heritage, they are showing steady improvement. The FIFA Series gave them a chance to play a European team.

By thrashing Saint Kitts and Nevis 4-0 with a brace from Etam and goals from Ole Romeny and Mauro Zijlstra, they set up a final meeting with Bulgaria. Having drawn and lost their two encounters in the 20th century, they will be keen to taste a victory.

Bulgaria was the punching bag of their UEFA World Cup qualifying group. The Bulgarian National Football Team won only their last encounter in the qualifying group against Georgia, but still finished last. With the UEFA Nations League C fixtures to look forward to, they received an invitation from FIFA to travel to Southeast Asia. At 87th, they are the highest-ranked team in the tournament, and Solomon Islands felt their wrath. Led by a Vladimir Nikolov hat-trick, they routed them 10-2 to progress to the finals.

But Nikolov is humble ahead of the final and said his team won't be complacent due to their superior rank. "We have great respect for the Indonesian team. Currently, every team in the world continues to develop and improve in quality. The way you welcomed and treated us, and the respect shown to Bulgaria and our team, was truly extraordinary. We feel very appreciated and privileged to be here," he added as they were looking forward to a fierce challenge from the hosts.
