La Liga Denounces Violent Fan Behavior Following Real Oviedo vs Sevilla

The fallout from Real Oviedo vs Sevilla, where the away side recorded their third consecutive loss in La Liga has resulted in violent behavior from its passionate fan base against some of its players and team directors. The Spanish top division has subsequently released a press release condemning the unruly behavior and working towards identifying and punishing the culprits.

Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to relegation-threatened Real Oviedo away from home, the travelling Sevillistas reportedly confronted the team at the Seville Airport on their return, and even hurled insults at them. Some reports suggest some portion of the Sevilla FC fans wore masks and were spotted at the club's training ground.

La Liga Issues Warning To Sevilla FC Supporters For Their Conduct

After being made aware of the violent fan conduct, La Liga has officially issued a press release strongly condemning the insults, threats, and acts of intimidation directed against players, coaches, managers, and employees of professional clubs. Here are some excerpts:

“Disagreement, demands, and discontent can be part of football. Threats, serious insults, death wishes, personal attacks, and any form of harassment or intimidation have no place in sport or in a democratic society….The events that occurred yesterday in Seville, along with other episodes of threats, coercion, and intimidation that LALIGA has become aware of, require us to act with the utmost firmness,” La Liga said.

The press release suggests that the league is seriously investigating this matter and figuring out the next steps while collaborating with the authorities and the Security Forces to identify the violent fans. While La Liga sympathizes with the passionate Sevilla FC fanbase, they are strictly against threats, humiliation, or intimidation against the teams, players, and officials.

When Will Sevilla FC Play Their Next Game?

The Seville-based side will play Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone in their next game on April 12. As things stand after 30 league games, Sevilla sits only two points clear in 17th place ahead of the relegation spots, consisting of Elche, Levante, and Real Oviedo.

With big games coming up and positive results far and few in between, every negative result in the run-in will add more pressure on head coach Luis Garcia and his men.
