Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma received a demerit point and was fined 25 per cent of his match fee after action was taken by the Indian Premier League (IPL) following their game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 2, 2026. Abhishek returned to form in the match, scoring 48 runs from just 21 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours.

While his batting impressed fans, his behaviour during the game did not please the officials. The IPL statement did not clearly mention the exact incident, but it confirmed that the opening batter accepted a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3, which relates to using inappropriate language on the field.

In its official release, the IPL stated: "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. 

He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.

Klaasen, Head and Reddy Took SRH To A Massive Score Against KKR

SRH registered a dominant 65-run win over KKR at Eden Gardens, including strong performances with both bat and ball. Batting first, they put up a mammoth total of 226/8. The innings was built by an 82-run opening partnership between some of the best batsmen in IPL, Travis Head (46) and Abhishek Sharma (48), which came in just 34 balls. Later, Heinrich Klaasen (52) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (39) took the score past 200.

In reply, one of the best teams in IPL, KKR, failed to keep up with the required rate and were bowled out for 161 in 16 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was the top scorer with a 29-ball 52. Blessing Muzarabani was their standout player for the night, taking 4/41.

For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat led the bowling attack with 3/21, while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Eshan Malinga supported well with two wickets each, sealing an easy win for the team.
